Venture Capital

Israel’s venture capital firms help foster and commercialize a high proportion of the nation's best ideas.  The country’s V.C. industry has roughly 70 active funds, of which, 14 are international VCs with Israeli offices.  Additionally, hundreds of international funds that do not have branches in Israel actively invest in Israel through in-house specialists.  Even in the midst of a global credit crunch, Israeli high-tech companies raised $1.12 billion in 2009. Granted, this figure was 46% below the $2.08 billion raised in 2008, the highest amount raised in 7 years. In 2009, the Life Sciences Sector led the market with 24% of total capital raised, followed by the Software Sector with 23%, the Communications sector with 20% and Internet firms with 13% of total capital raised.
